3、estival is also called Double Fifth Festival. It occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month on the lunar calendar. It is one of the most important Chinese holidays. The other two are Moon Festival and Chinese New Year. Three centuries ago, a famous Chinese scholar-statesman, Chu-Yuan (屈原), helped th
4、e king the Chu Dynasty. Chu-Yuan did many wonderful things for the Chu Dynasty and he was trusted by the king and loved by many people. There were, however, bad and jealous people who didnt like Chu-Yuan. They began to whisper rumors and lies about him to the king, who gradually began to dislike Chu
5、-Yuan as well. Chu-Yuan felt sad because his king and country had turned against him. At the age of 37, he clasped with a stone to his chest and jumped into Milo River in Hunan Province. Today, Chinese people everywhere do activities to remember and show respect for Chu-Yuan. These activities includ

8、lebrate Dragon Boat Festival! Many fun and interesting activities take place during Dragon Boat Festival (Double Fifth Festival). The traditional ways we celebrate the holiday include racing the dragon boats, hanging the herbs on doors, drinking special mineral wine, standing an egg on its end, eati
9、ng rice-dumplings, and making and wearing sachets. One of the most exciting activities is the racing of dragon boats, which demonstrates the spirit of teamwork. Hanging herbs on the doors and drinking a special mineral wine is supposed to protect people from disease and keep them healthy and happy.
10、Some people also believe that these activities chase away evil spirits. Boo evil spirits! One of the most amazing traditions is the belief that if you stand an egg on its end at exactly noon.
