it,andhonestly,Ididn’tevenreallyenjoyitallthatmuch.However,Idid

havetoconcedethatitisagreatformofe_ercise.Youdon’treallyneedany

What’smore,IfoundoutfromsomeotherholidaymakersthatintheUK

thereisafreeweeklyeventheldnationwideinparksalloverthecountry.It

iscalledParkrun,andbasicallypeoplegathereverySaturdaymorningat9.00

a.m.torunafi_edcourseof5kmandgetatimefordoingso.Iwasn’ttoosure

ifthiswouldbeachievableforme.I’dneverrunthatfarbefore.ButI

promisedmyselfIwouldtryit‘justonce’toseeifIcould.

ThedayafterIgotbackfrommyholidayIturneduptodotheParkrunatmy

localpark.Icantellyouthee_actday!

Itwas24thAugust_–Iknowthis

becausethewholepointofParkrunisthatifyouregister（whichisfree）then

theorganisationrecordsyourtimeeachweekandyoucanaccessitonline

afterwards.ThefirsttimeIwentIdidn’tevenmanagetorunthewholeway

round,butIdidfinish,andIdidgetagreatsenseofachievement.Becauseyou

knowyourtime,itisquiteaddictive,youfindyoudowanttogoagainthene_t

weekandseeifyoucanimprove!

Mylocalparkrunishuge,withwellover500

runnerstakingparteveryweek–soeventhoughIwasprettyslow,IfoundI

wasn’ttheslowest.

Sincethatdayovertwoyearsago,I’vefoundthatI’vegonetoParkrun

almosteveryweek.Ihavetakenpartinsome70parkruns,andthroughdoingso

madenewfriends,maintainedacertainleveloffitness,andevengainedthe

confidencetotakepartinsomelongerruns.I’vedonelotsof10kmracesnow,a

fewoff-roadruns–includingoneover24kmaswellastakenpartinobstacle

races!

Iwouldneverhavebelievedthatthesmallchangeof‘justgoingonce’to

Parkrunto‘giveitago’wouldleadtomebeingsuchanenthusiasticmemberof

Parkruntwoyearslater.Bytheway,Ihaven’treallyevergotanyfaster,but

I’mdefinitelyalotfitter.NowIcan’timagineaSaturdaymorningwithout

headingoffforarunwithmy500friendsatthelocalpark!
