swebsite.Some87.9percentofthechildrensurveyedsaidtheywerewillingtostaywiththeirparents.About90percentsaidtheyfeltinsecurewhentheywereleftalone.Thefivemostpressingconcernsforsuchchildrenaretutoring,psychologicalhelp,security,financialsupportandcommunications.Todealwiththeissue,adozengovernment-relatedbodies,includingtheOfficeoftheRuralWorkersUnitedConferenceundertheStateCouncilandACWF,setupaworkingpanelinOctoberlastyear.Thepanelistocooperatewithothergovernmentbodies,includingtheEducation,PublicSecurityandFinanceministries,tograduallyputinplacelawsandregulationstosafeguardtherightsofstay-at-homechildren.Manyofushaveheardabouttheso-calledleft-behindchildren.ButnotasmanypeoplecouldhaveanticipatedwhattheACWFreportreveals-morethanaquarterofChinesechildrenwhoare17oryoungerliveapartfromoneorbothoftheirparentsbecausetheyareworkinginplacesotherthanintheirhometown.TheAll-ChinaWomen'
sFederation(ACWF)reportontheconditionsofchildrenleftbehindbyparentsworkingawayfromhomepaintsagrimpicturethatwecannotaffordtounderstate.

Ifweseriouslybelievetheoft-madeclaimthatchildrenarefutureofthecountry,thenwetrulyhavesomethingtoworryabout.MostChineseparentsfosterhighhopesfortheirchildren.Theyaretirelesscustodians,keenonofferingmeticulouscareandsupportsothattheirchildrencanleadsuccessfulcareersandlives.Butparentsareparents.Nooutsideinterventioncantaketheirplacetoensurethehealthygrowthoftheirchildren,soitwouldbeidealiffewerchildrenhadtolivewithouttheirparentsaround.Intheeyesofdevelopmentalpsychology,theearlyyearsoflifeplayanessentialpartnotjustinformingone'
