TheUnitedNationshadpreviouslyreportedthat2015wasshapinguptobethewarmestyearonrecordforthewholeplanet.
LastyearwasalsothethirdwettestonrecordintheU.S.andsawtenweather-orclimate-relateddisastersthateachcausedatleast$1billionindamageintheU.S. andkilledatotalof155people. Theseinclude adrought,twofloods,fiveseverestorms,awildfire,andawinterstorm.
The averageU.S.temperaturewas54.4°F,2.4°Fabovethe20th centuryaverage,andsecondonlyto 2012'srecordwarmth. Thiswasalsothe19thconsecutive(连续的)yearwithaveragetemperaturesabovetheaverageforthecentury.
Everystatereported above-averageannualtemperatures.ThewarmingwasparticularlypronouncedacrossmostoftheeasternhalfofthecountryinDecember,whenmanyplacessawtemperatures30degreesabovenormalandmanyrecordswereset.

“EvenifalltheinitialtargetsinParisaremet,we’llonlybepartofthewaytherewhenitcomestoreducingcarbonfromtheatmosphere,”saidPresidentBarackObama atthetime.Still,theagreementrepresented“aturningpoint”bysettingup“thearchitecture"fordoingso,hesaid.
