RaulCano,whohaspioneeredtheresearchattheCaliforniaPolytechnicStateUniversity,saidtheancientantibioticshadbeensuccessfulinfightingdrugresistantstrainsofstaphylococcus(葡萄球菌),a“superbug”thathadthreatenedthehealthofpatientsinhospitalsacrosstheglobe.Henowintendstoestablishwhethertheantibioticsmighthavesideeffects.“Theproblemishowtoxictheyaretoothercellsandhoweasytheyaretopurify”,saidCano.
