1.Introduction
Personhavegotoutstandingachievementafterattachingimportancetothedevelopmentofindustryandtheopeningtoallovertheworld.Nowadayspersonarestillstridingforwardtothehighergradeindustryproducts.Thoseproductswillbesellingtoallcountriesintheworld.Theyarealltradedthroughmanydifferentwaystoreachthelastcustomers.Becausebusinesslettersareformalformoftransmittinginformation,theyhavebecomethemaintoolofcommunicationandcontactingamountbusinessmenallovertheworld.Obviously,aslongasyouwanttocontinueonthetradingway,youcannotignorebusinessletters.Thereisawellknownsaying“businesswillnotbereachedsatisfactorilywithoutbusinessletters.”
However,thewayofwritingabusinessletterisnotasoptionalasspeaking.Boththeformatofbusinesslettersandtheorganizationoflexicalwordsinbusinesslettersareverystrict.Whenwritingabusinessletter,businessmenshouldcomestraighttothepoint.Inanotherword,theyshouldtelltheirideadirectlywithouttoomuchdescribedwords.Inordertoavoidbrusqueoffensivenesstothereader,atthebeginningoftheletter,theauthorcanexpressthereasonandthestartingpointfirsttolethimknowwhyyouarewriting.Allofthisneedstobepaidattentiontowhenwritebusinessletters.
Toaccomplishtheabove,theusingoflanguageisveryimportant.Yetlanguagedependsontheusingoflexicalwords.Tograspfirmlythedistinguishingfeaturesoflanguage,businessmenshouldpayattentiontotheusingoflexicalwordswhentheywritebusinessletters.Theyshouldtrytousesuccinctwordsandleaveoutverbosewritingtoexpressthepoint.Toachieveallofthese,businessmenshouldmasterthefeaturesoflanguageofbusinessletters.
Nowadays,withdevelopmentofallaspectsofeconomy,thereisabigchangeontheformationofbusinessletters.Nounsarenotonlythetraditionalonesanymore.Thereareallkindsofabbreviationandtechnicaltermsappearedinthebusinesscommunication.Theyformabeautifulsceneryinbusiness,andtheyaregoodforbusinesscommunication.
2.Lexicalwordsandbusinessletters
2.1Definitionoflexicalwords
Lexicalwordisthecollectionofallnaturallanguagewords.Alexicalwordisafreemorpheme:
itcanappearinaphrasewithoutbeingboundto(i.e.concatenatedwith)anotherlexicalitem.Notethatdifferentinflectionalformsofagivenworddonotconstitutedistinctlexicalwords.Asafreemorpheme,everylexicalwordhasanindependentmeaning.Forexample,itreferstoathing,anevent,apropertyandsoon.Thelexicalwordclassesarenouns,verbs,adjectivesandadverbs.Lexicalwordclassesareoftendescribedas'open',forexample,newwordscanbeaddedtothem.Forinstance,ifanewitemisinvented,itisgivenaname,whichwillbeanewnoun.Ifyoucandosomethingnewwithit,thatnewactioncanbegivenanamewhichwillbeanewverb.Tosumup,lexicalwordisthesummationofallwordsandfixupphrasesinalanguage.
2.2Typesoflexicalwords
Therearemanytypesoflexicalwords.Butranginglexicalwordsaccordingtothesemanticisthemostfamiliarway.Thesemanticrelationinthewordsincludescongenericrelationship,antonymrelationship,appurtenantrelationshipandrelationshipbetweenentiretyandpart.Congenericrelationshipisdifferentfromsynonymyrelationship.Synonymymeansthatthemeaningofthesynonymouswordsissimilaroristhesame.Forcongeneric,whichthebasicattributeofitswordsisthesame,aredifferentinthelevelanddistinction.Forexample,“appendix”and“annex”aresynonymous,“enclosed”and“attachment”aresynonymoustoo,bothhavethemeaningofattachingdocument,buttheforwardgroupmeantheformaldocumentwhichgiveanextrainformationofabookordocuments,thelattergroupmeanadocumentthatyousentwithaletter.Obviously,theirdistinctionisdifferent.Thelatteronesarealwaysusedinbusinessletters,whiletheforwardonesarealwaysusedinbooksordocuments.Antonymrelationshipmeansthattheantonyms’meaningiscontradictory,atthesametimetheyarerelatedwitheachother.Appurtenantrelationshipisalsocalledfluctuatedrelationship.Thehypogynousconceptionisderivedfromtheinhereconception.Itmeansthatthenewconceptionwhichwelearncurrentlyissubjecttotheinhereconceptionwhichwehavemastered.Forexample,abbreviationsarederivedfromthenormalwordswhichwearefamiliarwith,theybelongtowheretheyareabridgedfrom,andtheirmeaningonlycanrepresenttheoriginalwords’.
2.3Significanceoflexicalwordsinbusinessletters
Firstofall,lexicalwordsinbusinessletterscanimprovethewritersandreaders’knowledge.Businesslettersaremadeupofallkindsoflexicalwords,andmanyofthemarewithunusualbackgroundknowledge.Forexample,anewthingiscreated,ithasnotaname,peoplewillalwaysnameitaccordingtoitsbackgroundofbeproduced.Nowadays,withthequickdevelopmentofscience,manynewgoodsandproductsareemerged.Itmeansthatmanynewlexicalwordsalsoemerge.Inordertodealwiththeconstantlychangingsituation,businessmenhavetolearnthenewlexicalwords,theyhavetofollowupthestepsofbusinessletters’development.Infact,notonlythenewlexicalwords,theoldoneswhichwouldappearinbusinesslettersalsoneedtobelearned.Inthiscase,peoplecankeepevervictorious.Andthemostimportantthingisthatitgreatlyimprovesbusinessmen’sknowledgethroughusingbusinessletters.
