Theducklingsdidastheywerebid,buttheotherduckstared,andsaid,"Look,herecomesanotherbrood,asiftherewerenotenoughofusalready!

"Thatisimpossible,yourgrace,"repliedthemother;"heisnotpretty;buthehasaverygooddisposition,andswimsaswellorevenbetterthantheothers.Ithinkhewillgrowuppretty,andperhapsbesmaller;hehasremainedtoolongintheegg,andthereforehisfigureisnotproperlyformed;"andthenshestrokedhisneckandsmoothedthefeathers,saying,"Itisadrake,andthereforenotofsomuchconsequence.Ithinkhewillgrowupstrong,andabletotakecareofhimself."
