ProfessorGareissays,“StudentsfromEastAsiahaveculturesthataredifferentonmanylevelsfromthecultureintheUnitedStates.Therearealsolanguageproblems,andmaybesomesocialskills,suchassmalltalks,whicharepossiblynotasimportantintheirnativecountries,whereit'snotasimportanttostartfriendshipswithsmalltalks.ManyEastAsianstudentsblamedthemselvesfortheirlimitedfriendshipswithAmericans,fornotspeakingthelanguagewellenoughandfornotknowingtheculturewellenough.”
