Rayraceddowntothechangingroomtotalktotheteam.Elevencupsoftea
werewaitingfortheplayers.
Theteamjoggedin,lookingtiredbuthappy.
‘Welldone,lads,’smiledRay.‘Youmustbethirsty.Drinkyourteawhileit`s
hot.’
‘Inaminute,boss,’saidStevethecaptain.
ThenRaynoticedoneplayerafteranothertakingtheircupsofteaintothe
showerroom.Whentheycamebackthecupswereempty.
‘That`sfunny,’thoughtRay.‘Drinkingteaintheshower.’
Stevethecaptainpickeduphiscup.Rayfollowedhim.Intheshowerroom
Stevewaspouringhisteadownthesink.
‘What`sgoingon?
’saidRay.
Steveleapedintheairanddroppedhiscup.Thesoundofthesmashingcup
broughttheotherplayersrunning.
‘Itwashisfault,’sobbedSteve.‘Hemademejump.’
‘Whatshallwedo?

Raylookedaround.Allovertheterraceswerepuddlesoftea.

Raywalkedbacktothechangingroom.Theplayershadjustlefttostartthe
secondhalf.Insteadofwatchingthegame,Raypacedupanddown.
Thegameendedina3-1winforSmalltownF.C.Astheplayerstrottedintothe
changingroom,Raypattedthemontheback.

Thechangingroomdooropened.InstaggeredRay,withateaurnrammedon
hishead.

The
changing
room
door
flew
open
and
Hilda
marched
in.
‘Where
doyou
thinkyouaregoingwithmyteaurn?

Justthentherewasaterrificcrashfromtheshowerroom.
Everybodyracedintotheshowerroom.
Nickwaslyingonthefloor.
‘Ifell,’hemoaned.‘Mylegreallyhurts.’
‘Hewon’tbeabletoplaynextweek,’saidStevesadly.
‘That’sthecupgameagainstCity,’saidHilda.
‘ThatisallIneed,’groanedAgoalkeeperRay.who‘can’tmakesavesand

Thechangingroomfellsilent.

ThenHildapulledherapronoverherheadandcried.Theplayershadnever
seenHildacry.Itwasmorefrighteningthananyofhertempers.
RayputhisarmaroundHilda’sshoulder.
‘I’msorry,’hesaid.‘Ishouldneverhavesaidanythingaboutyourtea.
‘Butit’strue,’wailedHilda

Thecrowdfellsilent.

Nervously,amanwearingalongCityscarfcametothefrontofthecrowd.
‘Right,yousquirt,’snarledHilda.‘Yousithere,bythegoal,

norudecommentsaboutme.Gotit?

Yes,Hilda,’chantedtheCityfans.
Thegamebegan.Almostatonce,Citywereontheattack.Thecentreforward
brokethroughandrushedtowardsthegoal.Hewasabouttoshootwhenhesaw
Hildarunningathim.

’screamedHilda.
Theplayerwassoshockedthathekickedtheballoverthebarandintothe
crowd.TheCityfansgroaned.

Hildabootedtheballupthepitch.
Byhalf-timeneitherteamhadscored.
‘Wellplayed,everybody,’smiledRay.Ashewentroundtalkingtotheplayers,henoticedsomethingodd.
Everyonewashappilydrinkingtheirtea.
Thesecondhalfdraggedandnobodylookedlikescoring.
Hildalookedatherwatch.Itwasnearlytime.Sheturnedtothefansbehind
her.

Shemarchedupthepitch.ACityplayerhadtheball.Hildachargedtowards
him.HewassosurprisedthathepassedtheballtoHildainsteadofhisownteam.
Hildasteamedupthepitch,yelling,this‘gameIwantfinished.Outofmy
way.’
Andthatiswhatalltheplayersdid.Hildascored.
TherefereeblewthefinalwhistleandtheSmalltownteamcarriedHilda
