AdvantagesofUsingLabVIEWinAcademicResearch优势利用LabVIEW的学术研究外文翻译@#@AdvantagesofUsingLabVIEWinAcademicResearch@#@Overview@#@ScientistsandresearchersaroundtheworldhaveappliedLabVIEWandNationalInstrumentsproductssuccessfullyforresearchanddevelopment(R&@#@D)inacademia.ThispaperconsiderssomeoftheadvantagesofapplyingtheNationalInstrumentsplatform,includingLabVIEW,tobuildvirtualinstrumentationandtakeaneffectivegraphicalsystemdesignapproachthatcaneffectivelyleveragetheopportunitiesandtakeonthechallengesofmodernacademicresearchanddevelopment.@#@OpportunitiesandChallengesofModernAcademicResearch@#@Academicresearchanddevelopmentusuallyencompassesdiscovery,innovation,experimentation,andcreation;@#@however,intoday’shighlycompetitiveandglobaleconomy,italsoinvolvespatents,licensing,technologytransfer,andpartnershipswithindustry.Inotherwords,itisaboutcreating“newknowledge”andbuilding“newbridges”withindustrywhilehavingapositiveimpactonthecommunityandsocietyingeneral.Duetotheconvergenceoftechnologiesandscience,multidisciplinaryresearchisrequired.Thismeansthathardwareandsoftwaretoolsmustbeadaptabletodifferentdisciplines.Astechnologyevolvesquickly,laboratoriesmustbeupdatedperiodicallyaswellasbeabletoextendtheusefullifeofcurrentandlegacyequipmentandsoftware.Newresearchmayrequirecustominstrumentsandapplicationprograms(software)thatarenotreadilyavailableonthemarkettobebuiltusingcommercialoff-the-shelf(COTS)technologies.@#@Scientificresearchisalsoevolving.Traditionally,basicscientificprincipleshaveposedquestionsthatcanbeinvestigatedempirically(andexperimentally),sothatascientifichypothesiscanbeviable.Thescientificmethodiscommonlybuiltaroundtestablehypothesesforwhichmodels(conceptualandtheoretical)aredeveloped,andthentestedthroughexperiments(andtests).@#@Figure1.Acommonapproachtoscientificresearchworkstoproveaninitialhypothesis;@#@modelsaredevelopedandconfirmedwithexperimentalresults.@#@Thishypothesize,model,andexperimentapproachtoscientificresearchcomplementsanewmethodinwhichlargedatasetsthatarecreatedfromavarietyofmeasurementscomingfromsensorsanddataacquisitionsystemsaremodeled,analyzed,andminedto“discover”knowledge.Inthisnewapproach,modelsandpatternsareidentifiedinthedatausinganalysisanddataminingtechniques;@#@thegoalisto“findknowledge”andmeaningfulinformationinthoselargesetsofdata,leadingtonewscientificdiscoveryandinnovation.Thisprocessthatstartswithmeasurementsandendswithnewdesignsisdefinedas“designingwithmeasurements.”@#@Figure2.Withthe“designingwithmeasurements”approachtoresearch,sensorsandothersourcesoflivesignalsprovidethebasisfornewdiscoveries.@#@VirtualInstrumentation@#@Virtualinstrumentationisthecombinationofuser-definedsoftwareandmodularhardwarethatimplementscustomsystems(“virtualinstruments”)withcomponentsforacquisition,processing/analysisandpresentation.Virtualinstrumentscommonlyleveragemainstreamtechnologies,platforms,andstandardssuchasthePC,Ethernet,GPIB,USB,IEEE1394,PCI,PCIExpressandothers.Virtualinstrumentationcombinessuchtechnologywithanapplication-specificselectionofmodularhardwareforsignalI/O,instrumentcontrol,connectivityandothertasks.@#@Virtualinstrumentationsoftwareisuserdefinedandfocusedontheneedsoftheapplication.Forinstance,researcherscanbuildcustomvirtualinstrumentsthatcanapplyreal-timemathematicsforprocessing,analysis,andcontrolinvolvingonline(live)and/oroffline(fromafile/database)signalI/O.Usingthevirtualinstrumentationapproach,appliedmathematicsiscombinedwithreal-timemeasurements,whichhelpsresearchersreducethetimetodiscoveryand,potentially,thetimetomarketand/ortimetocommercializationofpotentialproductsandservicesthatresultfromresearchanddevelopment(R&@#@D).@#@Figure3.Virtualinstrumentationincludescomponentsfordataacquisition(signalI/O),analysis,andpresentation.@#@NationalInstrumentsintroducedtheconceptofvirtualinstrumentationmorethan25yearsagoandnowoffersanextensiveplatformofhardwareandsoftwareforcreatingvirtualinstruments.Sinceitsinception,thevirtualinstrumentationapproachhasgainedwidespreadacceptancearoundtheworld.Forinstance,in2004NationalInstrumentssoldmorethan6millionchannelsofvirtualinstrumentationin90countries.WorkingwiththeNationalInstrumentsplatform,scientistsandengineershaveemployedthevirtualinstrumentationapproachsuccessfullyinbothindustryandacademia.Theapproachispopularinexperimentalresearch,findinguseinapplicationssuchasbigphysics,automotive,biomedical,com
