Englishplaysamoreandmoreimportantroleintheworldnowadays.Inthe21stcentury,withthedevelopmentofsocietyandscienceandtechnology,especially,afterChinaenteredintotheWTO,Chinahasamoreimportantpositionintheworld.ThoughcollegeEnglishteachinginourcountrygetsgreaterprogressinrecentyears,itstillhasmanyseriousproblems.Forexample,toagreatextentthecollegeEnglishteachingignoresthesubjectivepositionsofstudentsinEnglishlearning,andthecollegeEnglishteachingisgreatlyinfluencedbytest-orientededucation.Mostcollegestudentscan’tcommunicatewithforeignersinEnglishfreely.ThecurrentcollegeEnglishteachingisincontradictionwiththequickdevelopmentofmodernsociety,soitisveryimperativetoreformthecollegeEnglishteaching.TheauthorputsforwardfoursolutionstotheproblemsofthecollegeEnglishteaching,namely,①cultivationofEnglishlearnersautonomy,②“student-centered”inEnglishteaching,③usingthemultimediatoteachintheprocessofcollegeEnglishteaching,④trainingthecollegestudents’Englishcomprehensiveapplicationabilities.

摘 要
英语在当今世界发挥着越来越重要的作用。
在21世纪,随着社会的进步和科学技术的发展,特别是中国加入世贸组织后,中国有更多的机会与世界各国交流了,中国在世界上发挥着越来越重要的作用。
尽管我国的大学英语教学取得了很大的进步,但仍然存在很多问题,比如,忽视大学生在学习英语中的主体地位;
忽视学生兴趣的培养;
大学英语教学当中仍然存在着较强的应试教学的色彩,其结果是尽管学了很多年的英语但却不能用英语与外国人熟练地交流。
当前的大学英语教学与现代社会的快速发展存在着很多矛盾,因此改革大学英语教学就成了当务之急。
就当前大学英语所存在的问题,作者提出了一系列的解决办法:
①增强学习者自主性,②教学中坚持以学生为中心,③利用多媒体增大课堂容量和提高兴趣,④培养大学生的英语综合运用能力,

Introduction
EnglishisalingualcommunicationtoolthatplaysamoreandmoreimportantroleinChina.Inthe21stcentury,withthedevelopmentofsocietyandscienceandtechnology,especially,afterChinaenteredintotheWTO,Chinahasmoreopportunitiestocommunicatewithothercountriesinthefieldofeconomy,politics,science,culture,etc.Theworlddevelopsandchangessoquickly,sodoesChina.Consequently,thesevereconditionrequiresthatthecollegestudentsshouldhavethesuperiorEnglishlevel.Inrecentyears,ourcountrymakesgreatprogressincollegeEnglishteaching,butatthesametimeitstillhassomeproblems.CollegeEnglishteachingdoesnotlessenthecolorofthetest-orientededucation,andpeoplestillregardthe“CET-4andCET-6”askeypointstoevaluatestudents’Englishproficiency,and“60marksisenough”.Andsometeachersignorethesubjectivepositionofstudents.SotheseproblemshinderthecollegestudentsfromheighteningtheirEnglishlevel,anditisveryimperativetosolvetheseproblems,soastoimprovetheircollegeEnglishcomprehensiveapplicationabilities.
I.ProblemsofContemporaryCollegeEnglishTeaching
A.TheNeglectofStudents’SubjectivePosition
Peopleemphasizetheteachingfunctionsexcessively.Accordingly,theyignorestudents’subjectivepositionincollegeEnglishteaching,anditseriouslyhinderstheirdevelopmentofindividualityandexertionofinnovativespirit.AfamouseducatorWeiShushengsaid:
theintelligentpeoplewouldbecomeextremelystupidwhenheisinapassiveposition.Theteachingactivitieswillbecometediousifithasnostudents’participation.InourcountrymostteachersattachimportancetotheirownpositionsincollegeEnglishteaching;
theyhaveplentifulexperienceinholdingtheteachingandcontrollingtheclassroom,buttheyignoretheimportanceofstudents’subjectivepositions.Mostteachersspendmuchtimeinexplaining,buttheyseldomgivestudentsenoughtimeandspacetopracticetheirEnglish;
studentshavefewopportunitiestogototheplatform,sotheircourageandinterestdecrease.AndmostteachersseldomleadstudentstolearnEnglishbythemselves,andhelpthemtomasterthecorrectstudymethods,theyonlyinfuseknowledgeintothem,andtheycan’tmotivatetheirinterestinlearningEnglish.Thus,itisdifficultforthemtoimprovetheirEnglishcomprehensiveapplicationabilities.
B.TheNeglectofCultivationofStudents’Interest
Tostimulateandkeepthestudents’interestsinlearningcollegeEnglishisaimportantaimforthecollegeEnglishteaching,atthesametimeitshouldtryitsbesttohelpthecollegestudentscultivatetheirinterest.Einsteinsaidthatinterestisthebestteacher,andthistellsusthatinterestisveryimportantforus;
itenablesstudentstoacquireplentifulknowledge.MoreoveraRussianfamouseducationalistUshinskiindicatedthatthestudywhichhasnoanyinterestwillpreventstudentsfrompursuingthetruth,sowecansaythatifwewanttolearnthecollegeEnglishwell,wemusthaveenoughinterestinit.Butononehand,thecollegeEnglishteachinginourcountryignoresthecultivationofstudents’interestinlearningEnglishandteachersdon’tpaymoreattentiontothereactionofstudents,sowecansaythatitisacrammingeducation.(Itmeansintheprocessofteaching,theteacheronlyexplainsknowledgecorrectlyandclearly,butheignoresthereactionofstudents).Ontheotherhandcollegestudentsareafraidofthethousandsofwords,especially,thebaldgrammarsrules.Theycan’tgetenjoymentfromtheEnglishlearning.Intheirminds,learningcollegeEnglishisn’ttherealneedandhappiness,butaheavytaskandaburdenforthem.ThecollegeEnglishissoterribleandrepulsiveforthemthattheycan’tlearnitwell.Nowwecanconcludethatinterestisimportantforthecollegestudents.Asteachers,theyshouldtrytheirbesttofosterstudents’learninginterest.
C.MuteEnglish
ThoughwehavemadeprogressinEnglish,muteEnglishstillexistsinourcountryandmanyotherAsiancountries;
asaresultitseriouslyinfluencesmanycountries’developmentsofEnglishlevel.InourcountrymoststudentshardlylinkEnglishlearningwiththeirfutureemployment;
theyonlytakethepresentintoaccount,soitcausesmanystudentsonlytorepeatalesson,accumulatethewords,andtoagreatextent,theyneglectthepracticeoforalEnglish.OfcoursetheiroralEnglishwillbecomepoorer,andtheyarenotabletoopentheirmouthstospeakitfreely.Mr.ZhangYujinhasstudiedEnglishfornearly70years.Oncesaid“ManystudentshavelearnedEnglishover10years,butnearly90percentofstudentscan’tuseitfreely(translated).”Accordingtotheinvestigations,wefindthatmostcompaniesarenotsatisfiedwithstudents’Englishcomprehensiveabilities,especiallywiththeiroralEnglish,tobeconcrete,thecompaniesdeemthatthereareonly5percentofstudentsaregoodatoralEnglish,but37percentofthemareextremelypoorinit.(ZouYongzhen,1998.2).Thesecollegestudentscanread,write,buttheycannotcommunicatewithothersinEnglish.SotheyareincapableofmakinggooduseofEnglishtoimprovetheirEnglishlevel.ThesecollegestudentswhoarenotgoodatspokenEnglishdon’tlikecommunicatingwiththegoodstudents,becausetheythinkthattheywilllosetheirfacesduringthecommunication.Infact,maybethepoorstudentscanlearnsomebeneficialmethodsfromtheircommunication;
itisusefulforthemtoimprovetheirspokenEnglish.AndthecollegeEnglishteachinglaysmorestressesontheaccuracyandintegrityofEnglishandgrammar.Thisconceptseriouslymisleadsthestudents.Intheiropinion,Englishstudyrequiresintegrityandaccuracy,andthespokenlanguagealsoshouldbeintegratedandcorrect,thestudentshaveheavypressure.ConsequentlytheyhavenoenoughcouragetospeakEnglish.ThemuteEnglishheavilyhindersthecollegestudentsfromimprovingoralEnglish.
D.ImpactofTest-orientedEducation
Test-orientededucationindicatesthatitseparatesfromtherealneedsofdevelopmentsofsocietyandhuman.Thefinalaimoftest-orientededucationistopasstheexamination.Itseriouslybreachesthedevelopmentofstudents’physicalandmentalhealth.Anditonlyattachesgreatimportancetothegoodstudents.Toagreatextent,itignoresmoststudents,soitiseasytohurttheiresteem,confidenceandtheirinterestinlearningEnglish.Asamatteroffact,itisaneliminativeeducation.
Atpresent,thecollegeEnglisheducationdoesnotreducetheinfluenceonthetest-orientededucation,onthecontrary,theyregardCET-4andCET-6askeys,anddeemthat60marksisenough,andthiskindofwrongconceptcan’treachtheaimofapplicationsofcollegeEnglishteaching.Theoriented-educationhasnoflexibleteachingmethods.Thestudentscan’tusetheknowledgeflexiblybythishideboundmethod.Forexample,thoughmanystudentshaveaccumulatedalargenumberofwords,mostofthemcan’trecognizethemwhentheymeettheminsomeconcretecontextsorincommunications,asaresulttheyknowthesewordsbutcan’tusethem.AsassistantpremierLiLanqingsaidthatmanystudentshavelearnedEnglishforabouteightyearsortwelveyears,buttheycan’treadtheEnglishbooksskillfully,especially,theirlisteningandspeakingareverypoor.Theycan’tcommunicatewithforeignersdirectly;
thereforeitiseasyforthemtolosetheirconfidenceandinterestinEnglish.InordertopasstheCET-4andCET-6,moststudentscheatonanexamination,sotheirmarkscannotreflecttheirownEnglishlevelcorrectly.SunFuchu,afamousEnglishprofessorinQinghuaUniversity,hastaughtEnglishfornearly30years,andhehasaboutathousandstudents,heisanexperiencedEnglishteacher.Atpresent,heisanxiousabouttheactualitiesofcollegeEnglishinourcountry.HesaidthatcollegeEnglishhasalreadybecomeatesttoolcompletely,heevenappealedthattheMinistryofEducationshouldcancelthe
