ThePortofDalian(38°55'N121°41'E)foundedin1899liesatthesoutherntipofLiaodongPeninsulainLiaoningprovinceandisthemostnorthernice-freeportinChina.Itisalsothelargestmulti-purposeportinNortheastChinaservingtheseaportsNorthAsia,EastAsiaandthePacificRim.ItisthetradegatewaytothePacific.ItisthesecondlargestcontainertransshipmenthubinmainlandChina.
ThePortofDalianconsistsofDaliangang,Dalianwan,Xianglujiao,Nianyuwan,Ganjinzi,Heizuizi,Si'ergouandDayaowanportareas.PortofDalianisownedandmanagedbythestate-ownedDalianPortCorporationLimited.Ithasestablishedtradingandshippinglinkswithmorethan300portsin160countriesandregionsoftheworld.Thereare68internationalanddomesticcontainershippingroutes.PortofDalianhandlesatleast100millionincargothroughputannually.
Temperature:
Theannualaverageis10.4℃.ThehighestisinJulywithanaverageof23.5℃andthelowestisinJanuarywithanaverageof-5.9℃.
Wind:
Northernandnorthwesternwindsarethestrongestandmostfrequentoneswholeyearround.Southernwindsprevailinspringandsummerwhilenorthernandnorthwesternwindsinwinter.
Precipitation:
Theannualaverageis600mm.RainmainlyinJuly,AugustandSeptember,takingupabouttwo-thirdofthetotalamountoftheyear.
Fog:
FoggydaysincreasefromthestartofspringanddisappearafterSeptember.Fogoccursfrequentlyinthemornings.Long-lastingfoggyweatherinJulymayslightlyaffectthein-and-outofvessels.
Ice:
FreezingperiodoftheportareaisbetweenearlyJanuaryandMarch,lastingabout60days.Theportmaybepartiallyfrozenwithiceof5to20mmthick.Thisdoesnotaffectnavigationandmooring.
HYDROLOGY:
Thetideissemi-diurnalstyle.Themaximumtidelevelreaches4.6mandtheminimumis0.66whiletheaverageis2.14m.Theaveragesealevelis1.63m.
FAIRWAY:
ThefairwaytoNewHarborcrudeoilterminalisanaturalonewithadepthof-17.5mandawidthof300m.;ThefairwaytoDayaoBayTerminalisanaturalonewithadepthof-10.7mandawidthof210m.;ThefairwaytoSiergouTerminalJetty|is-9.5mindepthand120minwidth.ThefairwaytoSiergouTerminaljetty||is-9.5mindepthand120minwidth.
BREAKWATER:
Thereareninebreakwatersandthetotallengthis7,000m.TheDagangTerminalissurroundedbybreakwatersontheeast,westandnorthsideswiththeEastEntrance360mwide.ForeignvesselsenterandleavetheportmainlythroughtheEastEntrance

ThePortofSanFranciscoisasemi-independentorganizationrunbyafive-membercommission,appointedbytheMayorandapprovedbytheBoardofSupervisors.ThePortisresponsibleformanagingthelargerwaterfrontareaextendsthatfromtheanchorageoftheGoldenGateBridge,alongtheMarinadistrict,allthewayaroundthenorthandeastshoresofthecityofSanFranciscoincludingFisherman'sWharfandtheEmbarcadero,andsouthwardtothecitylinejustbeyondCandlestickPoint.
ThePortofSanFranciscoliesonthewesternedgeoftheSanFranciscoBayneartheGoldenGate.Ithasbeencalledoneofthethreegreatnaturalharborsintheworld,butittooktwolongcenturiesfornavigatorsfromSpainandEnglandtofindtheanchorageoriginallycalledYerbaBuena.Aport,aswassaidinitsearlydays,inwhichallthefleetsoftheworldcouldfindanchorage.
Theportareaunderthecommission'scontrolcomprisesnearlyeightmilesofwaterfrontlands,commercialrealestateandmaritimepiersfromHydeStreetonthenorthtoIndiaBasininthesoutheast.ThelistoflandmarksunderportcontrolincludeFisherman'sWharf,Pier39,theFerryBuilding,AT&TPark(formerlySBCParkandPacificBellPark),locatednexttoChinaBasinandPier70atPotreroPoint.HugecoveredpiersonpilesjutoutintoSanFranciscobayalongmuchofthewaterfront,borderedbytheEmbarcaderoroadway.

ThewholeshoreofBoHaiandLiaodongWanisborderedbyabeltoficevaryinginextentfromDecembertoMarch.TheportofQinhuangdaois,however,oftenicefree.Mostofthiscoastaliceappearstobenavigablebyordinaryvesselsinaverageyears,butitmustbeemphasisedthaticeconditionsvarygreatlyfromyeartoyearandice,difficulttonavigatebyanybuthighpoweredvessels,maybemetwithinsomeyears.

·Tropicalcyclonederivedcurrents:
Generally,onlyslowmovingtropicalstormsortyphoonsproducecurrentsabout2kn.Theytendtosetinthedirectiontowhichthewindisblowing.However,ifatropicalstormislocatednearacoasthigherratesarepossibleduetopilingupofwateragainstthecoast.
