In1826,aFrenchmannamedNiepceneededpicturesforhisbusiness.Buthewasnotagoodartist.Soheinventedaverysimplecamera.Heputitinawindowofhishouseandtookapictureofhisgarden.Thatwasthefirstphoto.
Thenextimportantdateinthehistoryofphotographywasin1832.Thatyear,Daguerre,anotherFrenchman,tookapictureofhisreadingroom.Heusesanewkindofcamerainadifferentway.Inhispictureyoucouldseeeverythingveryclearly,eventhesmallestthing.ThiskindofphotowascalledaDaguerreotype.
Soon,otherpeoplebegantouseDaguerre'sway.Travelersbroughtbackwonderfulphotosfromallaroundtheworld.Peopletookpicturesoffamousbuildings,citiesandmountains.
Inabout1840,photographywasdeveloped.Thenphotographerscouldtakepicturesofpeopleandmovingthings.Thatwasnotsimple.Thephotographershadto'carryalotoffilmandothermachines.Butthisdidnotstopthem,forexample,someintheUnitedStatesworkedsohard.
MathewBradywasafamousAmericanphotographer.Hetookmanypicturesofgreatpeople.Thepictureswereunusualbecausetheywereverylifelike(栩栩如生的).
