SalvadorDaliwasoneofthemostimportantsurrealist(超现实主义的)artistsintheworld.Heproducedoverl,500paintingsinhiscareer.Histalentinpaintingandfamousmoustachehavemadehimaculturalicon.
SalvadorDaliwasbornonMay11,1904inFigueres,Spain.Atanearlyage,Daliwasproducingfinedrawings.Uponrecognizinghistalent,hisparentssenthimtoadrawingschoolin1916.Afterthefirstyearatartschool,hebecameinterestedinmodernpainting.By1919,theyoungartisthadhisfirstpublicexhibitionattheMunicipalTheatreofFigueres.In1922,DalíwenttotheRealAcademiadeBellasArtesdeSanFernandoinMadrid.Hestayedattheschool'sstudentresidenceandsoonshowedhiseccentricity(古怪),growinglonghairanddressinghimselfinanEnglishstyleofthelate19thcentury.Whileinschool,DalíbeganexploringmanyformsofartincludingworksofclassicalpainterslikeRaphael.Between1926and1929,DalimadeseveraltripstoParis,wherehemetJoanMirò,theSpanishpainterandsculptorwhointroducedhimtoSurrealism.
Dali'ssurrealisticperiodstartedin1929.Theseoilpaintingsreflectedhisdreamimages.Dalicreatedarealityfromhisdreamsandthusmentallychangedtherealitytowhathewantedittobe.ForDali,itbecameawayoflife.DuringWorldWarII,DaliandhiswifemovedtotheUnitedStates.Theyremainedthereuntil1948.ThesewereimportantyearsforDali.TheMuseumofModernArtinNewYorkgavehimhisownexhibitin1941.Thiswasfollowedbythepublicationofhisautobiography(自传).
In1980,Daliwasforcedtoretirefrompaintingduetodisease.Nolongerabletoholdapaintbrush,he'dlosttheabilitytoexpresshimselfthewayheknewbest.Moretragedystruckin1982whenDali'sbelovedwifeandfriend,Galadied.Thetwoeventssenthimintoadeepdepression.OnJanuary23,1989,inthecityofhisbirth,Dalidiedofheartfailureattheageof84.
