Summary
Thepurposeofthisinvestigationwastostudythephysiologicalandpsychologicalstatesof16tennisplayers(8males,8females)duringthedayofthefirstmatchofatennistournamentandtheirrelationtoperformance.AthletescompletedtheCompetitiveStateAnxietyInventory-2,includingbothintensityanddirectionsubscalespriortothefirstmatchandcollectedsalivaforcortisolanalysisonseveraloccasions:
duringarestingday(baselinevalues)andpriortoandafterbothcompetitions.
ResultsshowedthemalesandfemaleshavedifferentresponsesintheCSAI-2subcomponents.Somaticanxietywassignificantlyhigher(+23%:
p < .05)infemalescomparedtomaleswhereasself-confidencewassignificantlyhigherinmales(+34%:
p < .05).WinnershadsignificantlylowercognitiveanxietyandhigherSelf-confidencescoresthanlosers.Somaticanxietywassignificantlyhigherinthelosers.Ourresultsshowedacortisolresponsetocompetition,whichwasespeciallycharacterizedbyananticipatoryrise.Maleshadthesamepatternofcortisolresponsesthanfemales,evenifthecortisolconcentrationsweresignificantlyhigherinfemalesthedayofthecompetition.Accordingtotheoutcome,significantdifferencesbetweenwinnersandloserscortisolconcentrationswereobservedwhateverthehouroftaking(exceptintheevening),cortisolconcentrationsbeingthehighestattheloser’s.Themeasurementofcortisolatthesametimethatself-reportpsychologicalindicatorswouldprovideanapproachtoexaminechangesinanxiety,anditsrelationshiptoperformance.

Abstract
Inordertobecontext-aware,asystemorapplicationshouldadaptitsbehaviouraccordingtocurrentcontext,acquiredbyvariouscontextprovisionmechanisms.Afteracquiringcurrentcontext,thisinformationshouldbematchedagainstthepreviouslydefinedcontextsets.Inthispaper,agranularbestmatchalgorithmdealingwiththesubjective,fuzzy,multi-granularandmulti-dimensionalcharacteristicsofcontextualinformationisintroduced.TheCAPRA–Context-AwarePersonalReminderAgenttoolisusedtoshowtheapplicabilityofthenewcontextmatchingalgorithm.Theobtainedoutputsshowedthatproposedalgorithmproducestheresultswhicharemoresensitivetotheuser’sintention,andmoreadaptivetotheaforementionedcharacteristicsofthecontextualinformationthanthetraditionalexactmatchmethod.

Abstract
Studiesrarelyassesstreatmenteffectsacrosstasks;thepresentexperimentsaddressedthisissue.InExperiments1and2,rats(n=12)weretrainedandthentestedwithvariabledelaysonaspatialmatch-to-positiontasksequentiallyinthewaterandradialmazes(incounterbalancedorder).Experiment1comparedtheeffectof0-,60-and1440-mindelaysonperformanceinbothmazes.Ratsrequiredfewer(P<0.05)mean(±S.E.M.)sessionstoreachcriterionperformanceinthewater(11.0±1.0)versusradialmaze(19.3±2.2).Intestsessions,performancewasimpaireddelay-dependentlywhenscoreswereaveragedacrossthetwotasks(P<0.05)butnosignificanteffectoftaskortask×delayinteractionwasfound.Inthesecondexperiment,thesameratswereretrainedandtestedwith0-,1-,3-and5-mindelaysinbothmazesandtestingfollowedtheadministrationofscopolamine(0,0.1,0.4and0.8mg/kg).Themean(±S.E.M.)numberofacquisitionsessionswassimilarintheradial(6.33±0.34)andwatermaze(6.08±0.46).Onthesampleportionoftrials,performancewasimpairedatthe0.8mg/kgdoseofscopolamine(P<0.02)intheradialmazeonly.Ontherecognitionportionoftrialsintheradialmaze,the0.4and0.8mg/kgdosesofscopolamineimpairedperformancewhereasinthewatermazetaskthe0.8mg/kgdoseimpairedperformance.Thepatternofresultsmayreflectdifferentnaturaltendenciesofratstoalternate(win-shift)versusnotalternate(win-stay)indrylandversusswimtasks.

Memoryloadsexceedingthelimitedcapacityofworkingmemory(WM)havebeenshowntoexpandtheprefrontalareasthatparticipateinWMandhaverevealedsubstantialindividualdifferencesinperformance.Weusedadelayed-match-to-sample(DMS)taskinanevent-relatedfMRIstudytomapthefullextentoftheexpandedregionalactivationsassociatedwithsupracapacityloads.A6-letterstudyarraywascomparedtoarraysof1and3letters.Thetaskcomprisedseparateencoding,retention,andretrievalfMRIepochs.Abrain-widespatialcovarianceanalysiswasappliedtothedataofalltaskepochstoidentifypatternsofcorrelatedregionalactivationswhoseexpressionincreasedmonotonicallyacross3memory-loadlevelsonasubject-by-subjectbasis.Suchload-relatedactivationpatternswereinalltaskphases.Ofgreatestinterestistheactivationpatternthatwasobtainedduringthemaintenancephase:
