Contemporaryviewsofparent-teenagerrelationshipsstresstheidealofthefamilyasa‘democracy’.However,recentlegislationhasemphasizedtheimportanceofparentalcontrolandresponsibilityforthemoraldevelopmentoftheyoungandeducationandemploymentpolicieshaveextendedyoungpeople’sdependenceontheirfamilieswellbeyondtheschool-leavingage.Thisstudy,byateamatLancasterUniversity,lookedathow57familieswithteenagersdescribedeverydaydomesticlifeandthebeliefsandvaluesthatmaintainthefamily.Interviewswithbothparentsandteenagersrevealedthat:
现代理想的家长和少年的关系强调“民主”家庭。
然而,近期的法规又强调,家长对年轻人的思想发展承担责任和进行掌控是非常重要的。

e)Mothersandfathersfoundsatisfactionandenjoymentincloserelationshipswiththeirchildren,buttheirteenagers’withdrawalfromclosenesscanheraldaparental‘identitycrisis’.

但如果他们的少年要摆脱这样的亲密关系则可能使父母感到“认可危机”。
