Butnoteveryoneishappy.OwainJames,thepresidentoftheNationalUnionofStudents (NUS),arguedthattheincreaseisevidenceofstudenthadship–youngpeoplearebeingforcedintoearningmoneybeforefinishingtheireducation.“Newstudentsarenowawarethattheyarelikelyto leaveuniversityupto £15,000 indebt.Itisnotsurprisingthatmoreand more studentsaretakingagapyeartoearnmoneytosupporttheirstudyforthedegree.NUSstatisticsshowthatover40%ofstudentsareforcedtoworkduringtermtimeandthefigureincreasesto90%duringvacationperiods,” hesaid.
