Theresponsewasamazing.BeforeIknewit,peopleallovertheplanetweregettingintouchwithideasandoffersofhelp.Somepostedmebooksfromtheirhomecountries.Othersdidhoursofresearchonmybehalf.Inaddition,severalwriterssentmeunpublishedtranslationsoftheirnovels,givingmearareopportunitytoreadworksotherwiseunavailabletothe62%oftheBritishwhoonlyspeakEnglish.Evenso,selectingbookswasnoeasytask.Withtranslationsmakinguponlyaround4.5percentofliteraryworkspublishedintheUKandIreland,gettingEnglishversions(版本)ofstorieswasdifficult.
Buttheeffortwasworthit.IfoundIwasvisitingthementalspaceofthestorytellers.Thesestoriesnotonlyopenedmymindtothereallifeinotherplaces,butopenedmyhearttothewaypeopletheremightfeel.
