Bythe1970s,morefemalehistoriansbegantolookbackatwomen’scontributionsinhistory.In1978,aCaliforniaschooldistrictstartedWomen’sHistoryWeektopromotetheteachingofwomen’shistory.SchoolofficialspickedtheweekofMarch8toincludeInternationalWomen’sDay.Itwassopopularthat,in1981,Congresspassedaresolution,makingtheweekacelebrationfortheentirecountry.Theconceptofstudyingwomen’shistorycontinuedtogrowinpopularity.In1987,agroupofwomenaskedCongresstoexpandthecelebration.Thatsameyear,CongressdeclaredtheentiremonthofMarchNationalWomen’sHistoryMonth.
