Abstract:
Overthepastseveraldecades,anincreasinglylargenumberofcollegeinstructorsofEnglishinChinahavestartedteachingpublicspeakingtomeetstudents'growingneedforgoodmunicationskillsintheirsecondlanguage.ThisemergenttrendinintegratingpublicspeakingintotheEnglishcurriculummaysignifythebeginningofaneweraintheEnglishteachingofChinesehighereducation.ItisestimatedthatinthenextfewyearsalargenumberofChineseinstitutionsofhigherlearningwillofferpublicspeakingasanEnglishcourse.Notonlycanitperfectthestudents’oralEnglish,butitcanimprovetheirwritingabilityandcriticalthinking.Therefore,thestudentswillbemorepassionateaboutlearningEnglish.Asaresult,itisnecessarytoopenEnglishpublicspeakingcoursestoEnglishmajors.
Thispaperfallsintofiveparts.Thefirstpartisintroduction.Ittellsthebackground,functionandgeneralconditionofEnglishpublicspeakingcourseinChina.ThesecondpartelaboratesontheadvantagesofopeningEnglishpublicspeakingcourses.Thefocusofthispaperislaidinthethirdpart.Inthispart,thewaystoopenEnglishpublicspeakingcoursesarefullypresented.ThefourthpartexplainstherelationshipbetweenEnglishpublicspeakingcourseandEnglishinterpretation.Inthelastpart,itmakesasummaryofthewholepaperandlooksintothefutureofEnglishpublicspeakingcourseinChina.

近几十年来,越来越来的中国高校教师开设公共演讲课来满足学生对良好沟通技能技巧日益增长的需求。
把公共演讲课纳入英语专业课程这一新的趋势可能代表着中国高校英语教学的新开端。
据估计,在未来几年,会有日益增多的中国高校将开设英语演讲课。
英语演讲课的开设不仅能够提高学生的口语水平,也能够提高学生的写作能力和批判性思维。
所以,学生学习英语的热忱会日益高涨。
因此,英语专业开设演讲课是十分有必要的。
本论文共分为五局部。
第一局部是总体介绍,表达了英语公共演讲课在中国开设的背景,功能以及总体状况。
第二局部介绍了开设英语公共演讲课的好处。

1Introduction
Publicspeaking,asitsnameimplies,isawayofmakingyourthoughtspublic,ofsharingthemwithotherpeopleandimpactingthem.ForEnglishpublicspeaking,itinvolvestheuseofEnglishasaworkinglanguage,whichisuseddailybypeopleservinginbusiness,education,lawandgovernment.Masteringalanguageatthislevelisnotsimplyamatterofpassingvocabularytests,goingthroughpronunciationdrillsorgraspinggrammarrules.Itis,asamatteroffact,amatterofusingthelanguageinafullrangeofrealscenesthatincludeeverythingfromformalspeechestodiscussionsanddailytalks.
EnglishpublicspeakingcourseisaparativelynewthingamongthecoursesopenedInChina’suniversitiesandcolleges.However,ithascaughtagreatdealofattentionsinceitsopenness.Agreatmanyschoolshavefollowedthetrend.TheintegrationofEnglishpublicspeakingcourseintotheteachingsyllabusfullyshowsthesignificanceattachedtothiscourseforitsfunctionofbuildingupstudents’confidence,broadeningstudents’horizonandpopularizingEnglishtoagreatextent.
Amongthefourimportantaspects,namely,listening,speaking,readingandwriting,themasteryofproductiveabilities,withspeakingandwritingincluded,ismuchharderthanthatofreceptiveskills,includinglisteningandreading.Englishpublicspeakingcourse,however,servesasaneffectivewaytoimprovethestudents’speakingandwritingcapabilities.Askingthestudentstowritingscriptscanimprovetheirwritingskills.Lettingthestudentsmemorizethescriptsandmakepublicspeecheswithoutreferringtothemcanmakethemfellateaseinsimilaroccasions.Asaresult,ontheonehand,thestudentscanbetterunderstandtherelatedaspectsofpublicspeakingbyopeningEnglishpublicspeakingcourses.Ontheotherhand,theygettheopportunitytoreviewthefundamentalknowledgesuchasthealreadylearnedvocabularyandexpressions,tonamebutafew.

FreshmenandsophomoresofEnglishmajorshavealreadylearnedcourseslikeoralEnglish,listening,readingandwriting.Tosomeextent,thesecourseslayemphasisonacertainaspectofthelanguagepetency.However,Englishpublicspeakingcourses,whichareatrainingofthestudents’prehensiveuseoflanguage,areabinationofallaspectsoflanguagepetency.AlthoughitcanimpossiblytakeplaceofthespecializedcoursesofthefirsttwoyearsofEnglishmajors,itisanall-rounduseandpromotionofthestudents’skillslearnedinthesecourses.itisabinationofinterest,challengeandknowledge,whichcanfurtherimprovethestudents’reading,writing,speakingandlistening.Themeaningofreadingistwo-fold.Thefirstoneisreading,thatistosay,toreadclassicworksorpreparedscriptsloudly.Thereasonisthattoreadwithemotionandintonationcanhelpthestudentscultivatetheirlanguagesenseandenablethemtohaveakeensenseofthestandardpronunciation.Thesecondoneisprocessingmaterials,namelytogatherinformation,borrowthoughtsandgetinspirationsthroughextensivelycollectingandfilteringvariousmaterials.
