TheycouldjointheChineseartsofGuqinMusicandKunquOperaas“worldintangibleheritages”.
UNESCOhas47itemsontheworldheritagelist,includingChineseKunquOperaandGuqinMusic.Everytwoyearsthedirectoryisenlargedbygivingeachcountrythechancetorecommendonecandidate.
Nodiscriminationismadeagainstcountrieswhichmakeregularbids,soalthoughtheprocessislong,thereisastrongpossibilitythatTCMandtheMidAutumnFestivalwillbeaccepted.Whilethebidisgoingthrough,thestategovernmentallocatesfundsforeachitem'sprotection.
TheapplicationforTCMwouldhighlightthefactthattraditionalChinesemedicineisaculturethathasexistedforthousandsofyears.IfTCMisacceptedontheUNESCOlist,doctorsandpractitionerswouldadvocatebothitsadvantagesanditslegalstatusabroad.ThetheoriesandexperiencesofoldTCMpractitionerswouldcontinuetobecollected,andtreatmentwouldbeextendedintootherareasofmedicine,suchasresearchintotheAIDSvirusandmalaria.Butsomepeoplefeelthatthereneedstobeacompromisebetweentheterm“heritage”whichsuggestssomethingoldfashioned,andthefactthatTCMisstilldevelopingasamedicalscience.
MidAutumncelebrationsreflectChineseculturaltraditions.Withmorethan50millionChineselivingandworkingoverseas,theMidAutumnFestivalremindsthemoftheirChineseoriginsandwouldhelptouniteChinesepeopleallovertheworld.Plansforaseminarofexpertsonthefestivalhavebeenannounced,whichwillrecommendsymbolicambassadorstopromotethebid.
OtherexamplesofChina'sintangibleculturalheritageincludetheancientartofShaolinkungfu,theworld'slongestepicpoemofTibetanKingGesser,andChenstyleTaiChi.
UNESCO'sagendafortheworld'stangibleandintangibleheritageisalsotoactasawarningsystemforsiteswhichareatthemercyofredevelopment,pollutionoreventheeffectsoftourism,andculturalactivitieswhichareindanger.UNESCOundertakestotakesitesofftheWorldHeritagelistiftheirpresentstateisthreatenedbyanabsenceofprotection.
Gettingacceptedonthelististheresultnotsimplyofasubjectiverecommendationbyinterestedgroups,butofculturaldiplomacybygovernmentsandathoroughunderstandingofthebureaucraticsystemofUNESCO.Inreturn,UNESCOrecognisestheautonomyofprovincial,federalandstateculturalorganisations,butofferssupportandguidancewhenrequested.

如果给联合国教科文组织的申报成功的话,中医和中秋节将被列入世界无形文化遗产目录。
它们将携手中国古琴乐及昆曲成为世界无形遗产。
联合国教科文组织在世界遗产名单上有47项,包括中国昆曲及古琴乐。
通过给每个国家一个机会来推荐一个候选项,这个目录每两年就会扩大。
