“OpenFarmDayprovidesthepublicwithachancetomeetlocalfarmers,seelifeonthefarm,
andfindouthowlocalfoodisproduced,”saidFederalAgricultureMinisterGerryRit.“It’sagreatwayforfamiliestolearnhowCanadianfarmersproducesomeofthehighest-qualityfoodintheworld.”
Theagricultureindustryplaysanimportantroleincreatingjobsandeepingtheeconomy
strong.Canadaistheworld’sfifthlargesteporterofagricultureandfoodproducts,witheportshittinganall-timehighofmorethan$40billion.
“OpenFarmDayisagreatchanceforIslandersandvisitorstolearnmoreabouttheprovince’snumberoneindustryandtheimportantroleitplaysinoursociety,”saidPrinceEdwardIsland’sMinisterofAgricultureandForestry,GeorgeWebster.“Peoplewillhaveachancetoseewhatlifeislieonamodernfarmoperation,whichhelpstobuildawarenessandanunderstandingofIslanderswhomaetheirlivingbyproducinghigh-qualityfood.”
TheagricultureandfoodindustryistheleadingindustryinPrinceEdwardIsland.In2011,
